Description
Pyrus salicifolia is a species of pear, native to the Middle East. The tree is deciduous and relatively small in size, rarely reaching 10 to 12 metres in height. It has silvery foliage with a rounded crown. The tree is widely grown as an ornamental and has had a key role in the origin of cultivated pear varieties.
Behaviour
The tree produces flowers that range in colour from light rose to white. Its fruits are usually single, round or pear-shaped, and are brown or golden. It is highly drought resistant and can tolerate frosts down to minus 32 degrees Celsius.
Habitat and Range
The native range of this variety of pear tree is in the middle-east and it grows largely in the temperate biome.
