KAETÉS RESERVE, BRAZIL

A NEW OPPORTUNITY

The Kaetés Reserve is one of only two remaining sites for the Critically Endangered Cherry-throated Tanager, which has an estimated global population of just 25 individuals. Five further globally threatened birds occur here. These include the Endangered Vinaceous-breasted Amazon and the Golden-tailed Parrotlet, which is classed Vulnerable. The reserve also protects a population of the Critically Endangered Buffy-headed Marmoset, and the Three-toed Maned Sloth.

There is now an opportunity to purchase a property which would extend the reserve. The available property will expand the reserve to the north by approximately 89 ha, connecting with two of the previously WLT supported properties. The land purchase is urgent as the owner has been approached by another potential buyer. This would most likely lead to subdivision of the area into separate plots for clearance and development.
